This is one of the oldest cities of the US state of Georgia. Being a county seat of Chatham County, it is a city that was formed around 1733 on the Savannah River. The city grew as a colonial city during the British reign. It also became the first state capital of this area. It was also formed as a strategic port city and even today it is known to be a seaport on the Atlantic and an industrial center.

This downtown area also houses the Savannah Victorian historic district along with 22 park and square areas. The original town plan is retained in this area and forms a historic landmark district in the nation.
Among the several parks to see here, Forsyth Park is one such place that is popular with locals and tourists alike. There are athletic areas here where one can carry out different recreational activities along with plenty of green spaces.
The Owens-Thomas house is an Antebellum house museum that has several tours. Similar places worth visiting at the Jepson Center for Arts, Isaiah Davenport House, which is an old historic home, the Georgia state railroad museum among others.
